As part of the ongoing Environment Week celebrations, Day 3 featured an interactive environmental awareness booth display bringing together government departments, civil society organisations, and environmental partners to engage with students and promote greater understanding of environmental issues affecting Tuvalu.
The event was held at the Tulaakiga Falekaupule and targeted students from Nauti Primary School, Seventh Day Adventist Primary School, and Fetuvalu Secondary School. The booth display provided an opportunity for students to learn directly from different stakeholders through educational materials, demonstrations, discussions, and interactive activities.
The event brought together key environmental stakeholders, including the Energy Department, Tuvalu Climate Action Network (TuCAN), Department of Waste Management, Department of Agriculture, Fenua Ola, Department of Climate Change, with support from the Tuvalu Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (TANGO).
Each stakeholder showcased their work and highlighted the importance of collective action in protecting Tuvalu’s environment. The displays covered a wide range of topics, including renewable energy and energy efficiency, climate change adaptation and resilience, waste reduction and management, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and community-based environmental initiatives.
Through the booth activities, students were encouraged to explore practical ways they can contribute to environmental protection in their homes, schools, and communities. The engagement also provided students with a better understanding of the roles different organisations play in addressing environmental challenges and supporting sustainable development in Tuvalu.
The Department of Environment acknowledges the valuable contribution and collaboration of all participating stakeholders and partners who supported the successful delivery of Day 3 activities. The strong participation demonstrated the importance of partnerships and shared responsibility in building environmental awareness among the younger generation.
Environment Week continues to provide a platform for communities, schools, and organisations to come together, exchange knowledge, and strengthen commitment towards a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Tuvalu.
